Join us to celebrate the opening of Recording Mauri: Moments of Light and Earth with an artist talk by Cora-Allan (Ngāpuhi, Ngātitumutumu and Niue: Alofi, Liku). In this exhibition, Cora-Allan explores experimental ways of tracing mauri and wairua from the natural world, using materials and processes that connect to traditional knowledge systems from Niue and Aotearoa.Cora-Allan (b.1986) is a multidisciplinary artist of Māori (Ngāpuhi, Ngātitumutumu) and Niuean (Alofi, Liku) descent, originally from Waitākere. Her practice is centred on reviving the art form of hiapo (Niuean barkcloth), connecting contemporary art to traditional knowledge systems. She holds a Master’s in Visual Art and Design from AUT and has exhibited widely across Aotearoa and internationally. Her work is held in major collections including Te Papa Tongarewa and Auckland War Memorial Museum. Recent awards include the McCahon House Residency (2021), Creative New Zealand Pacific Heritage Artist Award (2020), and Arts Foundation Springboard Award (2021). She is a founding memeber of the BC Collective.
