Opening AFFR: (Un)Authorised. Alternative Records of the Built Environment

Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) and Nieuwe Instituut cordially invite you to celebrate the opening of (Un)Authorised, AFFR's second immersive media programme. Inspired by this year's location in the Nieuwe Instituut’s Re-Centre, the exhibition questions what counts as an architectural record, proposing more plural or disobedient forms of recording and cataloguing architectural histories.

(Un)Authorised explores how scale models, films, photographs, personal stories and social media shape our understanding of architecture. This presentation brings together immersive works that expose and challenge dominant archival practices. By re-examining archival material and proposing alternative archiving methods, the participating artists address the central question: what makes an architectural document?

The opening will take place in the Auditorium of the Nieuwe Instituut. After the opening you have the opportunity to visit the exhibition at the Re-Centre during the Thursday Night late-night opening.

(Un)Authorised takes place from 8 to 25 October in the Re-Centre at the Nieuwe Instituut. The exhibition can be visited for free and is accessible to visitors during the museum's opening hours. The film festival itself will take place from 7 to 11 October at LantarenVenster and Theater Rotterdam.
