OPEN social: The Odyssey trail at Broughton Hall
About this Event
** Important: Free tickets need booking via Broughton Sanctuary (see below) as well as signing up here on eventbrite. **
Hosted by Alice and Rachel.
This is a family friendly social event. To make it a great experience for you and other members of the group, we will email guidelines we ask everyone who attends to follow. These are around things such as photography and boundaries. You will receive the email once you have signed up.
The event is open to new and familiar faces, all OPEN members and their connections, families, partners, loved ones etc. Children and well behaved dogs are welcome, though dogs should be kept on the lead and please remember that not everyone likes dogs so don't let them jump on people without checking if they are okay with this.
The plan
- Meet at Broughton Sanctuary at Banner Hill car park
- Walk round some of the trails and soak up the rewilded estate
- Picnic lunch - bring food with you
- Wear shoes and clothes to keep you warm, dry etc.
- Bring drinks and snacks that you need throughout the day
- No fixed time to leave. We'll pick a trail that's 5-10km long, or people can do different trails if they like.

From the website
The Odyssey Trail is a 27-kilometre route that winds across the entire Sanctuary, guiding you through a rich and ever-changing rewilding landscape. From flourishing grasslands and newly revived wetlands to ancient and emerging woodlands, the trail reveals the full spectrum of habitats being brought back to life.
As you explore, you will be surrounded by the hum of insects and the rustle of small mammals in the undergrowth, while overhead kestrels, buzzards, and red kites circle in search of prey. In the wetlands, look and listen for curlew, snipe, and lapwing returning to breed and feed. Along the way, you will find peaceful spots to pause, take in the views, and enjoy a picnic immersed in nature.
Formed of a series of interlinking loops, the Odyssey Trail can be explored in shorter sections (ranging from 3km - 6.5km routes) or completed as a full circuit — offering a rare opportunity to experience nature recovery in motion, across a living landscape where wild beauty and careful stewardship meet
