Open House Japanese Canadian Hastings Park Interpretive Centre

Thank you to those who were able to visit us at our Open House at the PNE (Pacific National Exhibition). President Dan Tokawa put together a temporary exhibit with archival photos and some stories of those who were at Hastings Park in 1942. One story that is particularly memorable is from Mary Ohara. She was a child when she got mumps and was sent to the “dungeon” where she discovered other younger children who were left to fend for themselves. Stories like Mary Ohara’s give us a true sense of what it was like to be a child in the Livestock Building at Hastings Park.
We're renovating the former staff cafeteria and plan to have a permanent Interpretive Centre by spring 2027.
We have heard from some of you who weren't able to make it to the open house. We’re keeping the temporary exhibit in place and holding an open house on Sunday, November 8, from 1 to 4 p.m.
