Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 16th! An open house will be held at The Culver House from 1pm to 3pm. At 1:15 pm, the 1862 Civil War enlistment certificate of Dr. John W. Coleman, who enlisted in the 41st Illinois Infantry as an Assistant Surgeon, will be donated to the Piatt County Historical and Genealogical Society. Dr. Coleman lived in Monticello from 1860 to 1912 when he moved to Decatur with his daughter.
At 2:00 pm there will be a presentation about Culver Marble & Granite Works. The company was founded in 1871 by James S. Culver. The history of the company, and how it brought John H. Culver to Decatur, will be shared.
There is no cost to attend – donations are appreciated!
