Come and visit Ecoburbia - an urban micro farm. Shani Graham and Tim Darby’s property features a large veggie patch, goats and chickens, four composting systems, plus extensive verge gardens, including a “help yourself” herb garden. Their property features in “Retrofitting Suburbia”, the latest book by permaculture’s cofounder David Holmgren, and has been also been presented by Costa on Gardening Australia.
Shani and her garden buddy Richelle will be on hand to share some simple ways you can start your own veggie patch at home.
And springtime means baby goats! You can pop into the goat pen, pat Lady Marmalade and Coco, and even have a cuddle with their kids. Shani and Tim have written a kids’ book ‘Lady Marmalade’, all about growing food and developing community in your neighbourhood. Tim is a musician, and he will be on hand to play some songs about sustainability issues. He is also well known for his verge sand sculptures – he’ll be creating a special one just for the Open Day.
Come along and share a cuppa with the residents of Ecoburbia. If you’re interested in permaculture or sustainability– there is sure to be something to inspire you!
