Think open mic… but for dancers and movement artists!
A community performance night with a mix of styles, people, creativity, and good energy. Expect everything from hip-hop/jazz funk to salsa, ballroom, swing, bellydance, break dancing, contortion and more!
This is the very first Open Floor Night, and from the time I finalized the concept to the actual event date is only about 30 days 😅 so I’m honestly building this thing in real time. It may not be a perfectly polished production yet, but the intention behind it is real — to create an inspiring, community-centered night that brings people together through dance, movement, creativity, and performance.
The idea is to create a relaxed, supportive space for adult dancers and movement artists of any genre to share what they’re working on —choreography, freestyle, performance pieces, works in progress, class routines, or simply connect with the community.
One of the biggest reasons I wanted to create this is because I genuinely believe dance can change people’s lives. I also feel like there’s a real lack of performance spaces specifically for adults. There are already so many amazing opportunities centered around kids and teens, and I would love to help create more visibility, inspiration, and community specifically for adult dancers, instructors, students, and creatives as well. My hope is that audience members leave feeling inspired too — whether that means taking a class, trying a new style, performing someday, or simply bringing more movement into their lives or tapping into parts of themselves they didn’t even realize were there. Also… I do happen to believe that dance has the potential to bring peace on earth 😂🌎☮️
Interested in performing?
Performer spots are limited and should be reserved ahead of time — ideally at least 2 weeks before the event when possible.
⚠️ Audience seating is VERY limited for this first event and the studio is small. If you know you want to come, please reserve your seat ahead of time. There may be limited standing room available once seats are filled.
Is this event family friendly?
This is more of an adult-oriented community dance/performance night, but kids are not excluded. Since it’s a small studio setting and later in the evening, it’s probably best for kids old enough to enjoy sitting through a one-hour performance and respect the vibe of the space 🙂
Also! Since this lands during Salem’s downtown art walk (5–8PM), make a night of it! Free Swing Lesson at RJ Dance Studio 6:30-7:00. And definitely consider stopping by Venti’s Cafe downstairs beforehand to grab dinner and/or a drink before coming upstairs for the performances.
Minimum $5 contribution to reserve your seat.
Additional support always appreciated.
