About this Event
In April, the Berkeley Art Center will launch the Open Center, expanding how we use our space beyond traditional gallery exhibitions. The Open Center will serve as a hub where ideas, artists, and community intersect, offering opportunities for interdisciplinary, intercultural, and inter-philosophical dialogue, reflection, and activation.
OPEN CENTER: Cohere, Here: An Intimate Lab for Dreaming Art Coops
Join us for an intimate and experimental conversation about the intersection of art, creativity and workers cooperatives. We will be talking about art, money, power dynamics and solidarity. This event will be led by Amy Yoshitsu and Katie Giritlian of Specs Studio, a new workers cooperative that is an offshoot from Converge Collaborative, a multimedia workers cooperative that operated from 2020-2025. We will be piloting a new, custom made card deck to discuss how and when to start a workers cooperative or collective, and what operating one entails legally, socially and emotionally. We intend for this program to be of mutual resource for all participants, including the facilitators.
Free and open to all. Donations welcomed.*
RSVP not required but appreciated.
Suggested donation $10-$15. Let’s envision the arts ecosystem together, where art and community flourish side by side. Your support matters!
This community event is part of Berkeley Art Center's new initiative, Open Center: Artists & Community, and features programming selected through an open call to support community-engaged art and dialogue.
