We are thrilled to invite you to the premiere of onYon, the inaugural production of Dancing Borders Away, a dynamic new annual contemporary dance platform launched in Looe by CreativeLooe. This initiative aims to turn regional challenges into creative opportunities, building a vital bridge between local youth talent and the professional dance world.
Led by professional choreographer and dance practitioner Gocha (Maria Mendible), the production features a stellar partnership with ballet icon Julie Felix MBE and Rachel Bond, Director of the Bond Dance Company. We are also working in close collaboration with Sheila Brock, Director of Sheila’s School of Dancing, and Sam Day, Head of Performance at Looe Community Academy.
Additionally, we are fortunate to collaborate with extraordinary multidisciplinary artist Elaine Foster-Gandey, who is leading the costume design, and multi-instrumentalist, composer, and sound designer Arlo Anwin, who has created a magical original score.
Truly, this production brings together an exceptional team.
About onYon (Onion in Cornish)
Taking inspiration from the historic "Onion Johnnies", the Breton onion traders who travelled between France and Great Britain. onYon explores how a shared Celtic heritage, trade, travel, and human connection bridged cultures across the sea. Rather than a literal historical retelling, the piece uses this imagery as a springboard for contemporary movement, cultural exchange, and the dissolving of geographical borders.
We hope you enjoy the performance as much as we have loved this gorgeous, creative journey.
Warmly,
The CreativeLooe Team
