The speakers for the day include:

Project Porsche - In July 2020, a female went for a walk in her Durham neighbourhood. When she didn’t return home her husband searched for her but could not locate her. The Durham Police were called, and a missing person investigation commenced.
Inspector Gill Lock of Durham Regional Police will present this case of resilience, the investigation that led to the capture of the offender, and an exploration into the criminal mindset of a sexual predator.

Kimberley Black is a college educator, bibliotherapy facilitator, and public speaker. Her presentations promote her #bpositive message and the healing power of expressive therapy and social support.

Kimberley completed a Master of Arts degree in education through Ontario Tech University and was nominated for the Outstanding Master's Thesis Award in 2021 for her research on asynchronous video interviews. She is now using her research skills to explore the impact of using expressive writing to cope with social pain and trauma.

Aligned with her research, Kimberley is writing a memoir to document her lived experience as a victim of aggravated sexual assault, traumatic brain injury, fraud, and religious shunning. Desiring to add levity to her keynotes and writing, she is also a student of Second City comedy writing and storytelling courses.

Dr. Komal Bhasin, MSW, MHSc (HA), DocSocSci, RSW, CHE, is an equity, diversity, inclusion and workplace mental health strategist, speaker, and certified coach with over 20 years of experience in public policy, strategic planning, and senior management within the public and not-for-profit sectors.

With a unique clinical and leadership background, Komal works in a range of contexts

with Insayva clients, including providing consulting services, training and facilitation, and one- on-one coaching in a range of inclusion areas, with a specialization in racial inclusion and psychological health and safety. She works closely with organizations, governments, and system leaders to drive inclusion and belonging across teams, organizations, and sectors. Komal is also a qualified administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI), the leading validated tool on the market which measures individual and organizational-level capacity for inclusion.

Komal is a clinically-trained mental health professional with extensive experience in the areas of mental health inclusion in the workplace, psychological safety, burnout prevention, and the intersection between mental health and racial inequities. She has delivered educational sessions to thousands of professionals, and provided one-on-one executive coaching to over a hundred leaders around the world. She is a Registered Social Worker and a Certified Health Executive, holding Masters Degrees in Social Work (MSW) and Health Sciences (MHSc), and holds a Doctor of Social Sciences. Komal has served as a faculty member at Ryerson University in the School of Social Work, where she has taught courses on anti-oppression, social policy and social inclusion. She is a certified Yoga teacher specializing in mindfulness, resilience and self- care.
