Shop our Summer Blooms Native Plant Sale and invest in nature! Not only do your new native plants create healthy habitat for butterflies, birds, bees and other wildlife, your purchase will help to restore thousands of acres of natural areas in our Will County forest preserves, improving the health and vitality of our local ecosystems.
Plant orders may be placed online through 4 p.m. Saturday, July 13. The plant pickup and popup sale is set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, and 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, Aug. 4, at Isle a la Cache, 501 E. Romeo Road in Romeoville.
The Summer Blooms sale features more than 60 species of late-blooming native plants that are much-needed sources of nutrition for pollinators, especially bees and butterflies, as they prepare for the change of seasons. Summer is certainly bountiful, but as the season of plenty draws to an end, there is a frantic push for many insects, birds and other animals to get as much out of these late-blooming resources before they’re gone, whether they are migrating or staying put for winter. Research on native bees has shown how critical late-blooming native plants like asters and goldenrod are to pollinators as they prepare for overwintering or migration. Monarchs need nectar to provide energy as they breed, for their migratory journey, and to build reserves for the long winter. Hummingbirds consume up to 50% of their body weight in nectar each day and feed intensely before migration. Adding these native plants to your garden provides beautiful blooms well into the fall months!

The Nature Foundation supports the education, recreation and restoration efforts of the Forest Preserve District of Will County. All proceeds from the plant sale assist The Nature Foundation in supporting the Forest Preserve’s efforts to provide recreational opportunities, host programs for diverse audiences and protect the health and well-being of nature through land conservation.
