Join us for an in-store presentation with botanist Kelsay Shaw - Co-owner of Possibility Place Native Plant Nursery, on Wednesday, July 17th at 6PM ->> FREE to Attend - **REGISTRATION REQUIRED** (815-744-3800)Most people think of gardening for birds as planting “ berries” or plant a small flower garden and plop a feeder into the middle and the birds will simply show up. Is may attract some species some of the time, but for bird lovers and, well, nature lovers in general a more varied and long lasting community is more rewarding. Kelsay Shaw hopes to show you ways to build a bigger community in your yard by embracing native species in both ornamental and “wild” styles of plantings to increase your yards appeal to birds. He’ll discuss planting strategies, how to choose species and species relationships with each other to improve species count both during migration and year round. From beginner to expert, he promises you’ll find something to utilize in your yard during this presentation.
Kelsay Shaw has a B.S. in botany from Eastern Illinois University and has been doing work in the green industry for over 20 years. He has traveled the mid-west exploring native habitat to further his understanding of native flora and its relationship to local fauna; as well as the impact of fragmentation of these habitats. A partner at Possibility Place Nursery he and his family have tried to help make their clients (and people in general) aware of the positive contributions planting native plants in their yard can have on the local environment through consulting on projects and giving lectures on a range of related topics. Only through showing people the connections of native plants to native critters to us can we hope to make our world a slightly brighter place.
Call to reserve your seat at this special in-store presentation! *REGISTRATION REQUIRED*
