But for thousands of young people across New Jersey, nightfall brings uncertainty.
Some sleep on couches. Some sleep in cars. Some stay wherever they can find temporary shelter, never sure where they will be the next night.
Youth homelessness often goes unseen, but its impact is profound. Without stable housing, young people struggle to finish school, find employment, maintain their health, and build the kind of future every young person deserves.
Salt Bridge Farm was created to change that.
Located in the heart of Toms River, Salt Bridge Farm is being developed as a place where young adults can find stability, purpose, and opportunity. Through supportive housing, workforce development, and community connection, the farm offers more than just a place to stay — it offers a pathway forward.
But solving youth homelessness requires more than programs.
It requires community awareness, compassion, and action.
That is why we are hosting Salt Bridge Farm’s Inaugural Sleep Out for Youth Homelessness.
On the evening of April 10, community members will gather at the farm to spend one night outside, under the same sky that thousands of young people face each night without stable housing.
This experience is not meant to replicate the full reality of homelessness. One night can never capture that. Instead, it is meant to foster understanding, solidarity, and commitment to ensuring that young people in our community have safe places to sleep and opportunities to thrive.
Participants will raise funds and awareness to support the continued development of Salt Bridge Farm and the services that will help young adults build brighter futures.
Together, we will spend one night outside so that young people in our community don’t have to spend many.
Because every young person deserves a safe place to rest — and a future full of possibility.
Can’t make it to the farm but still want to be part of the movement? You can participate in One Night on the Farm from wherever you are! Host your own mini “sleep out” in your driveway, backyard, or living room with friends or family to help raise awareness about youth homelessness. Set up a tent, roll out a sleeping bag, or simply commit to spending the night unplugged and reflecting on the experience many young people face without stable housing. You can also participate if you have pets that can’t come to the farm—your dog might even enjoy a backyard campout with you! Share your night on social media, encourage donations to your fundraising page, and help spread the message. Whether you’re sleeping under the stars at the farm or in your own driveway, every participant helps shine a light on youth homelessness and supports the mission of Bright Harbor Healthcare and Salt Bridge Farm.
