Info: Tim Heffernan is an experienced consumer peer worker who is passionate about the development and support of the peer workforce. He identifies as a person with a lived experience of mental health challenges and recovery and has held several significant roles in the mental health and wellbeing sector. These include serving as former Deputy Commissioner with the NSW Mental Health Commission, Co-Chair of the National Mental Health Commission’s National Stigma and Discrimination Reduction Strategy Steering Committee and Deputy Co-Chair of the National Peer Workforce Development Guidelines Steering Committee.

Info: Learn how Mind is establishing a unique residential service that will truly centre lived experience values, principles and practices. The service is designed - and will be run by - a highly experienced and skilled peer workforce.

Mind’s Executive Director of Lived Experience, Katie Larsen, will explain how the free short-term service is truly groundbreaking for the sector.

Info: Following a presentation by Dr Laura Hayes on the research which identifies the effectiveness and strengths of recovery-based models of Step Up/Step Down services, we will dive into an interactive discussion with Liam Annetts and others to consider the models that already exist both in NSW and in other states and what enhancements could be made.

Info: Facilitator: Dr Bernie Mullin Access to housing is the foundation for mental health, yet there is a need for more long- term housing for people experiencing mental health challenges and housing insecurity. The panelists will discuss and hear from the audience on what is needed to support more housing.

Info: As we plan for the next NSW election in March 2027, you will help shape the advocacy asks that we will take to politicians across the state.

Drawing on the themes and sessions of the day, this will be an interactive session focused on community input and and collaboration.
