As artificial intelligence transforms the legal profession and dispute resolution, mediators must understand how to use emerging technologies ethically, effectively, and strategically. This advanced mediation course explores the intersection of AI and mediation, equipping experienced mediators with practical tools to enhance preparation, communication, case management, and settlement outcomes while maintaining the human-centered skills that are essential to successful mediation.

Participants will examine how AI can assist with case analysis, issue identification, document review, drafting mediation summaries, developing negotiation strategies, generating settlement options, and improving administrative efficiency. The course also addresses the ethical and professional responsibilities surrounding AI use, including confidentiality, bias, transparency, data security, and the appropriate role of human judgment.

Through demonstrations, case studies, and hands-on exercises, participants will evaluate leading AI tools and learn best practices for incorporating them into their mediation practice without compromising neutrality, party self-determination, or trust.

• The current and future role of AI in mediation and dispute resolution
• AI-assisted case preparation and document analysis
• Using AI to develop mediation agendas and identify interests
• Drafting summaries, agreements, and communication materials

About the Instructor: Tracy Allen

Tracy Allen is an international professional mediator, arbitrator and ADR trainer. As a litigator and business tax attorney for many years, she now specializes in conflict resolution and Allen acts as a neutral service provider in other ADR areas such as early neutral evaluation, summary jury trials, special master, meeting facilitator and litigation support analyst. She also serves as independent resolution counsel for litigants. Allen's ADR practice is heavily focused in both national and international commercial and business disputes although she regularly conducts mediations and arbitrations involving securities, employment, real estate, family, environmental, insurance, health law and public policy matters.

Annually, she conducts many basic and advanced mediation and arbitration trainings worldwide for advocates, mediators, arbitrators and the judiciary. Allen is an adjunct professor for the Institute for Conflict Management at Lipscomb University and a frequent lecturer for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education at the University of Michigan. Allen is the owner of her Detroit-based resolution firm, Global Resolutions, PLLC.
