A personal & poignant doc that turns the camera on the Altadena community's grief, resolve, and survival in the aftermath of the Eaton Fire
About this Event

In commemoration of the one-year anniversary of the devastating January 2025 Southern California wildfires, and in honor of the Altadena residents whose lives were tragically and irrevocably altered by the Eaton Fire, The Philosophical Research Society and 7th House are proud to present Ondi Timoner’s poignant, Oscar-shortlisted documentary ALL THE WALLS CAME DOWN (2025). A powerful and deeply personal work, the film chronicles the aftermath of the Eaton Fire and bears witness to both the profound loss and the enduring strength of the Altadena community.

In the heart of Altadena, the Eaton Fire swept through with a ferocity that left the community reeling. Homes were reduced to ashes, and families found themselves displaced overnight. This catastrophic event not only scarred the landscape but also tested the resilience of those who called this place home. As the flames subsided, the true spirit of Altadena emerged. Neighbors banded together, offering shelter, food, and hope to those in need. After losing her family home, acclaimed filmmaker Ondi Timoner (DIG!, WE LIVE IN PUBLIC) processed her shock and grief by picking up a camera. The result is ALL THE WALLS CAME DOWN — an intimate portrait of a community ravaged by climate catastrophe, and of the resolve and care that emerge in its wake.

The film centers on the stories of Timoner’s neighbors, presenting a cross-section of lived experiences shaped by loss, recovery, and perseverance. Among them is Heavenly Hughes, a born-and-raised Westside Altadenean who, alongside her daughter Shanna, has devoted her life to serving the community through My TRIBE Rise. For generations, Altadena has been home to Black families who were redlined out of renting and owning property in Pasadena, many of whom settled on the west side and passed their homes down through family lines. In the aftermath of the fire, Heavenly now fights to keep those families from being permanently displaced.

Director’s Statement:

“In crafting All The Walls Came Down, my goal was to capture not just the devastation wrought by the Eaton Fire, but the incredible spirit of those who refused to be defeated by it. This film is a testament to the human capacity for resilience and the profound impact of coming together in times of crisis. I hope viewers will be moved by the stories of courage and inspired to contribute to their own communities in meaningful ways.”

Through these deeply personal stories, ALL THE WALLS CAME DOWN examines not only the immediate impact of the Eaton Fire, but the social, historical, and communal forces shaping what recovery looks like and the ability of residents to remain rooted in the place they call home.

Following the screening, Ondi Timoner and Heavenly Hughes will join us for a very special Q&A.
