On the Prairie Art Exhibition

SHOW RUNS Oct. 28–Nov. 14, 2026
The Next Picture Show invites artists to explore the landscapes, wildlife, plants, and changing character of the Midwest prairie in On the Prairie, a new exhibition inspired by last year’s Nature in Nachusa.
This year, the exhibition expands beyond Nachusa Grasslands to celebrate prairies throughout the Midwest—from protected preserves and restored grasslands to the prairie landscapes found close to home. Artists are encouraged to interpret the prairie in their own way, capturing its wide-open spaces, native plants, wildlife, changing seasons, dramatic skies, and the quiet details found within this distinctive landscape.
