Join the BAA for an on-site tour of one of Birmingham's oldest surviving pubs, currently under conservation by Oliver Architecture.
About this Event

Join us for an on-site Building Tour of The Golden Lion Pub, currently undergoing conservation work by Oliver Architecure and and Reynolds Conservation.

Accessibility

This is an on-site tour of a live site, so PPE is required (high-vis and site boots). Hard hats are not required. Please bring your own PPE. There is a small scaffold staircase so due to the live site environment this is not an accessible event.

Please meet at the Midlands Art Centre, and we will walk across to the site.

About the project:

The Golden Lion is one of Birmingham's oldest surviving pubs, with origins in the 16th Century and important later alterations reflecting the city's commercial development. The conservation work is revealing siginificant historic fabric and construction techniques that are rarely accessible to visitors.

The site tour will allow a close-up view of the building repairs from scaffold level. From the scaffold you wil see details of the timber framing, masonry, and repairs while hearing directly from the project team about the challenges and discoveries involved in conserving a complex historic structure.
