Taking both personal and societal experiences of loss, invisibility and silence as a point of departure to think through architecture, Jonas Dahlberg will speak about the potential of working with the built environment as a camouflaging practice; creating spaces that are architectural double agents. For example: In 2021 Dahlberg started Of Public Interest (OPI), a research environment connected to the Royal Institute of Art’s postmaster program and multidisciplinary hub for professional practitioners within art and architecture focused on what could or should be Of Public Interest. The laboratory is based in a storefront space in Stockholm and aims to develop self-reflexive methods and language to engage with complex and often polarized contexts. The area in which OPI is located also encompasses one of Stockholm’s oldest industrial areas. It is an area that is set to transform completely over the next ten years according to a new zoning plan.—
Jonas Dahlberg is an artist based in Stockholm. Dahlberg is known for his winning proposals for the memorials for the victims of the terrorist attacks in Oslo and Utøya on 22 July 2011. He is also known for his ongoing series of video works on how to analyze sites and the politics of space. Dahlberg has represented Sweden in Sao Paulo Biennal and was part of the 50th Venice Biennal as well as Busan Biennale, Prospect 2 in New Orleans, Manifesta 4 in Frankfurt, Lisbon Architecture Biennal and the Thessaloniki Biennale. He is a professor at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm.
