This session centers on Gender Trouble: Feminism and the Subversion of Identity by Judith Butler.
First published in 1990, Gender Trouble transformed debates about feminism, gender, and identity. Challenging the assumption that gender expresses an underlying reality, Butler argues that gender is produced through social practices, cultural expectations, and repeated acts. The book remains one of the foundational texts of contemporary feminist and queer theory, inviting readers to reconsider the categories through which we understand ourselves and others.
Together, we will explore questions of identity, embodiment, social norms, power, and belonging, while remaining open to the unexpected directions that emerge through collective reading and dialogue.

ON A TANGENT
On a Tangent is a space for conversation initiated through the shared experience of reading. Each month, a text is selected and shared with a community of curious readers.
Rather than approaching books as subjects to be explained or resolved, we use them as points of departure. Readings become a way to think together, ask questions, test ideas, and follow unexpected connections.
Discussions unfold through dialogue among participants, taking time to think collectively and aloud. Conversations drift between the selected text and broader cultural, political, philosophical, and personal questions, creating space for reflection, disagreement, curiosity, and discovery.
All are welcome, whether you have read the text closely, partially, or simply wish to listen and participate in the conversation.
