Grief in our culture is often pushed aside, only to be felt privately behind closed doors. Let’s start changing that expectation and hold our grief together in community. Join the Prairie Death Care Collective for the international, annual Grief-in-Public Day on April 26th.
We will be gathering at Elmwood Park at picnic tables (pad 3, one over from the baseball field direction). Bring your own picnic lunch and share time together, create a community memorial, and participate in rituals that help us acknowledge the complex feeling of grief.
We encourage attendees to bring photos, small personal objects, or flowers that represent and honor any loved one you’ve lost to add to the community memorial.
Featuring vigil songs led by Omaha Singing Resistance and a grief connection moment led by yoga therapist, Brooke Monaco of Ananda Omaha.
This event acknowledges and welcomes grief of all kinds. From the loss of a loved one (including pets), to grief over a breakup, political or environmental grief, and everything in between.
This is a family-friendly event, and we will have activities that kids can participate in as well. There is also a playground nearby.
