Olympic Fly Fishers of Edmonds proudly presents world-class fly fishing guide, author, and fly tyer, Pat Dorsey. He will be our guest speaker February 11, 2025, from 6 to 8 pm at Lake Ballinger Center. Pat's diving into one of the best topics out there: "Fly Fishing Colorado’s Best Tailwaters." He's got the inside scoop on everything you need to know about these incredible fisheries. He’ll break down the bugs (entomology, for the science fans out there) and the flies that match them, explain how dams and water releases impact the fish and your fishing, and share a detailed look at some of Colorado’s most iconic tailraces. If you’ve been dreaming about hitting these waters or want to up your game, this is the talk for you.
Pat’s also opening the floor for questions about rigging at the end of his presentation. Whether you’re wondering how to perfect your nymphing setup, curious about leader lengths, or just need some tips on streamers, he’ll be here to help you dial it in.
This is going to be a fun, info-packed evening. Expect to walk away with plenty of tips and inspiration for your next trip. Don’t miss it!
Club meetings are free and open to the public. No tickets required. Doors open at 5:30 pm.

ABOUT PAT DORSEY
Pat Dorsey is one of the most respected names in fly fishing. With over 30 years of guiding experience, Pat spends more than 200 days a year on the water, sharing his deep knowledge of the sport with anglers of all levels. As the co-owner and head guide at the Blue Quill Angler fly shop in Evergreen, Colorado, he’s built a reputation for excellence, mentoring a team of top-tier guides and setting the standard for professionalism in the industry.
A prolific author, Pat has written four highly regarded books: Fly Fishing Tailwaters, Tying and Fishing Tailwater Flies, Colorado Guide Flies, and Fly Fishing Guide to the South Platte River. Each is packed with invaluable insights, practical advice, and detailed fly patterns, making them essential reading for serious anglers.
In addition to his writing, Pat is a signature fly designer for Umpqua Feather Merchants, known for creating iconic patterns like the Mercury series, Limeade, Black Beauty, and many more. He’s also the inventor of the "Dorsey Yarn Indicator," a lightweight, highly sensitive strike indicator made from polypropylene yarn and rubber tubing. Its simplicity, adjustability, and ability to land softly on the water make it one of the most effective tools for detecting subtle strikes.
Pat serves as the Southwest Field Editor for Fly Fisherman Magazine and collaborates with top brands like Simms, Sage, Fishpond, Orvis, and Scientific Anglers. Beyond his home waters in Colorado, Pat and his wife Kim, also a passionate angler, lead trips to world-class destinations such as Alaska’s Bristol Bay and Patagonia’s Rio Manso Lodge.
Whether on the water, in the fly shop, or through his books, Pat Dorsey exemplifies a lifetime commitment to fly fishing, blending expertise, innovation, and an unwavering passion for the sport.
