We wanted to create a Tribute Music Video to honor and grieve the loss of Oliver, but had no clue how to connect and reach a community of fans. We both planned to go to his August 1st concert and were devastated by the news.
Here is some info about us the event planners:
Jacob Kelly - I first started listening to Oliver Tree in 2017. The first song I heard was Hurt, the music video with the tank driving down the abandoned road... It caught my attention and burned into memory. I've always enjoyed Oliver's music but it wasn't until last year that I truly embraced his entire body of work. What started as a few songs I enjoyed grew into a deep appreciation for an artist whose willingness to be unapologetically, and uniquely himself inspired me to embrace my own creativity. I realized that same fearlessness has always been inside me. Oliver reminded me that the best art comes from taking risks and being authentic. This event is my way of celebrating Oliver and the incredible community that has formed around his music. I hope it gives fans a chance to come together, sing loudly, make new memories, and celebrate an artist who has meant so much to so many of us.
Lily Compton - I first saw Oliver Tree in concert for $26 when he was still unverified on Instagram and before he had released an official album. He performed the entire show in a wheelchair. That was my introduction to his music, and it immediately became the soundtrack to my life. At that time, I was a young girl who hated the way I looked, however Oliver's constant message of "ugly is beautiful" completely changed my mindset, and | learned to not give a fuck what other people have to say about me. That shift gave me a kind of confidence I hadn't felt before. I got a bowl cut in honor of the impact his music had on me and as a physical reminder of the message I had taken from it. This event is important to me because I believe from grief comes beautiful things, and I hope this event creates space for people to connect, remember, and honor his art and the impact it's had on us.
