Step back in time—with a drink in hand—on the Old-Fashioned Downtown Tour. This spirited and engaging walking tour invites guests to explore downtown Wausau through the lens of architecture, local lore, and Wisconsin’s favorite cocktail, the Old-Fashioned.
Guests must be 21 or older to attend. The two-hour guided tour starts at the Woodson History Center and includes Old-Fashioned samples at each stop, with spirit-free options available, paired with rich stories that bring Wausau’s historic buildings and their colorful pasts to life.
Tour Highlights Include:
The Juliette (Plier Grocery Store): Discover Carl Plier’s legacy and the evolution of this historic storefront.
Peking (Hotel Wausau): Learn about hotelier Walter Schroeder and the architectural transformation of this downtown landmark.
The tour also features stops at significant sites such as the Yawkey House, City Hall, and Wausau’s oldest commercial building. Guests will gain insights into architectural styles, materials, time periods, and the visionary designers behind them.
The event will take place rain or shine. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and dress appropriately for the weather.
