In a career which spanned over 50 years, E. Y. "Yip" Harburg (1896-1981) penned the words to nearly 600 songs and worked with at least 58 different composers on 25 Broadway revues and musicals and 11 Hollywood films. Yet when we ask just about anyone if they know Yip Harburg we generally get a "No. "Ahh," we reply, "but you know his songs! Brother, Can You Spare A Dime. It's Only A Paper Moon. April In Paris. Happiness Is A Thing Called Joe. How Are Things In Glocca Morra? And, well, Over The Rainbow."Lynnea Barry and friends pay tribute to the man known as "Broadway's social conscience" and the heartful dreamer who put the rainbow in The Wizard of Oz, the Battle of Waterloo on the back of Lydia,…and laughter, compassion and good will into so much more.
