Old Ages Show is a concert series built for people who still love loud, original music but no longer need to prove they can stay out until 2 a.m. Veteran bands, early shows, reasonable volume, and a room full of people who came to actually hear the music. A cheeky nod to the all-ages shows we grew up with, Old Ages Show celebrates artists who are still writing, recording, and making a racket decades later.
Maximum Rock-N-Roll. Minimum Bullshit.
The Effigies
Formed in Chicago in 1980, The Effigies were one of the defining bands of the city’s first wave of punk and hardcore. Combining the urgency of hardcore with a muscular, distinctive sound that never fit neatly inside the genre, the band helped establish Chicago as a punk-rock city and influenced generations that followed. More than four decades later, The Effigies remain what they’ve always been: smart, uncompromising, and formidable live.
Brenneis Hester brings together two longtime songwriters with roots in the American punk underground. Michael Brenneis came out of Madison’s Juvenile Truth, whose recordings were produced by a young Butch Vig, while Eric Hester spent his early years with the Southwest-based Young Professionals, whose records charted on CMJ and whose sound critics dubbed “chainsaw pop.” Together, they turn those histories toward something new: melodic, guitar-driven rock built on sharp songwriting, loud guitars, and a shared belief that getting older is no reason to get quieter.
