presents Rodgers & Hammerstein's 1943 classic
OKLAHOMA!
Fri & Sat, Nov 28-29, Dec 5-6, Dec 12-13- 7:30pm
Sun, Nov 30, Dec 7, Dec 14- 3:00pm
Jaqua Concert Hall, The Shedd Institute in Eugene.
On March 31 1943, the curtains opened at Broadway's St. James Theatre, a single cowboy named Curly stepped onto the stage, burst into song, and a new type of musical was born. Rodgers & Hammerstein’s musical adaptation of Lynn Rigg’s 1931 play, Green Grow The Lilacs, wasn’t the first “serious” musical, to stand out against the comedies that dominated the 1920s and ‘30s, but it was--and remains today--one of the best…a stunning work on all fronts.
Based on a magnificent story that is both touching and heart-rending, Oklahoma! is filled with classic songs. Look for "Oh, What A Beautiful Morning", "Kansas City", "Many A New Day", "The Surrey With The Fringe On Top", "I'm Just A Girl Who Cain't Say No", "People Will Say We're In Love", and more!
The Shedd's production is directed by Ron Daum with music direction by Robert Ashens, choreography by Kenady Conforth, costumes by Anna Björnsdotter and set by Connie Huston. Esack Grueskin is Curly, Alexis Wood is Laurey, Owen Colley is Jud, Kara Churchill is Aunt Eller, Hannah Foshay is Ado Annie, Brenna Scott is Gertie, Ian Pedroza is Will Parker, and Nehemiah Nance is Ali Hakim. They are joined by a fine cast of Shedd veterans.
Join us for Dinners At Six after evening performances and before matinees!
