About this Event
The documentary "Oikophilia – The Love of Home", produced under the auspices of the Scruton Hub, draws inspiration from the intellectual legacy of Sir Roger Scruton. The film showcases the life journeys of Hungarians whose work, dedication, and community-building efforts offer tangible examples of preserving values, shaping their surroundings, and enriching our shared home.
Featured in the documentary are the Göncruszka Reformed Congregation, the Kecskemét Dance Ensemble, the Localist Market and Bistro of Nagykanizsa, the Hereditary Shepherds of Hortobágy, the Parókia Coworking, and Uncle Gyula Kovács’ "Fairy Gardens" initiative.
The film centers on Scruton’s concept of "oikophilia"—the love of home—derived from the Greek words oikos (home) and philia (love, attachment). For Scruton, home is not merely a place of residence but the broader environment, community, and cultural heritage for which we bear responsibility.
