Wait..but what is gouache? It’s like opaque watercolor. In this course you will use gouache to develop your unique style and paint any subject with more confidence.
OH my GOUACHE is a weekly studio class, where we will explore the opaque, water-based medium. If you’ve painted with tempera, acrylic, watercolor, or oil paint, you will find some similarities to gouache. Painting in this medium will improve your overall handling of paint, your understanding of pigments and transparency, as well as developing your own mark-making vocabulary.
The aim of this course is for you to create a consistent rhythm of painting that will strengthen your artistic voice.
Each week, you will try out new approaches and exercises, with demonstrations and painting prompts including still life, 20 stroke paintings, Notan thumbnails, value and color studies, and blowing up a small sketch to create a larger work. Emphasis will be on understanding the fundamental basics of painting through repetition, experimentation, and intention.
