About this Event
Illustration Programme at Camberwell College of Arts present The Office for Speculative Landscapes, a dynamic illustration festival at Camberwell Space, blending workshops, performances, talks, and discussions. Reimagined as a hybrid critical-illustration studio and arts-education think-tank, the space will foster experimentation, community, and creative play.
This is a creative and speculative workshop for undergraduate and postgraduate students and creative practitioners interested in considering the potential and future shape of the Art and Design studio in the context of education. The workshop will be facilitated by Rose Gridneff and Darryl Clifton. It will begin at 10:30 and include short presentations, guided making tasks and opportunities for feedback and discussion as well as fun! Materials and tools will be provided.
Biographies
Darryl Clifton is an educator, researcher, artist and currently the Programme Director, Illustration at Camberwell College of Arts, UAL. Clifton’s research is defined as transdisciplinary, using methods that draw on the intersectional spaces of illustration, design, anthropology, the sociology of education and emerging technologies with a particular focus on the potential for disciplinary ‘disobedience’ to enable transformative and just educational experiences.
Rose Gridneff is a designer, writer and academic. She is currently working on Architectures of Art and Design Education (RIBA Publishing 2025), a visual survey exploring the built environment of art and design schools across the UK. It highlights how the physical studios and workshops — designed for learning, teaching, and making — influence and interact with curriculum, creativity, practice and community. Alongside this, she is undertaking a funded PhD at University for the Creative Arts that interrogates the collection from the former Nijhof and Lee Booksellers, Amsterdam (1988—2010), exploring what the archival ‘turn’ means within the context of Graphic Design.
