OFF-SCRIPT: The Black Cat on actual film reels
Saturday, October 10, 8 p.m.; doors at 7:30 p.m.
Garfield Park Arts Center, 2432 Conservatory Drive, Indianapolis
Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi star in this strange 1934 horror film, presented on film reels with archivist Eric “Dr. Film” Grayson hosting. Tickets are $5 at the door. Indy Arts Council
Why it passes the review test: It currently has 89% positive reviews from 36 critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviewers particularly praise its unsettling atmosphere, expressionist imagery, and Karloff–Lugosi pairing. This is an offbeat classic, not simply an old movie filling a calendar slot. Rotten Tomatoes
Watching movies is more fun with two. Grab a friend. Call your sponsor. Invite someone who appreciates a little weird. Coming solo? You’re still in the right place.
 $5 · William Rating: 9.2/10
Good Solo: Excellent · Vibe: Vintage, spooky, film-nerdy
 Sober Friendly: Screening-focused
Content note: dark horror themes.
