The evening is hosted by Steven Feinberg, the Executive Director of the Rhode Island TV & Film office, who provides a brief perspective on the film’s history, influence, and enduring relevance. Confined to his apartment after breaking his leg, professional photographer L.B. “Jeff” Jeffries passes the time observing his neighbors through a shared courtyard window. What begins as harmless curiosity soon darkens when he notices unsettling behavior from a salesman across the way and begins to suspect that a murder has taken place.
Unable to leave his chair, Jeff draws his glamorous fiancée Lisa Fremont and his sharp-witted nurse Stella into his investigation, transforming them from spectators into active participants in a growing mystery. Told almost entirely from Jeff’s limited point of view, the film builds tension through glances, shadows, and fragments of everyday life, pulling the audience into Jeff’s obsessive gaze.
