Lest We Forget - Duluth from Declining Industrial City to Outdoor Recreation Destination
Presented by the Duluth Indivisible Environment and Public Lands Action Team in collaboration with the Izaak Walton League and the League of Women Voters
Duluth wasn't always the outdoor recreation mecca it is today - decades of industrial pollution made the St. Louis River virtually unusable and the Lake Superior shoreline in Canal Park was a dumping ground. Clean-up and restoration have been made possible through federal and state funding and the ongoing work of federal and state agencies collaborating with non-profit organizations and citizens. Hear from the people involved in the work about what it took to get us to the great place we are to live and play today.
Come learn about how decades of working partnerships across the public, private and non-profit sectors have been successful, what's at risk, and what we can do to continue progress. This is what democracy looks like.
To promote civic education and engagement, we are also inviting advocacy and user groups to have tables at the meeting.
In addition, our Women's Rights Action Team (the Indivisible Women of Duluth) are launching their "PAD it Forward" campaign to collect period products for Duluth's women's shelters. Please bring a box (unopened) to donate!
