Before either army reached Pennsylvania, the rolling countryside of Loudon County, Virginia witnessed Union and Confederate Cavalry fight a series of sharp engagements at Aldie, Middleburg and Upperville in June of 1863.
When we think of the Gettysburg Campaign, we might picture Little Round Top, Pickett's Charge, or Cemetery Ridge, yet these battles in Virginia were the true opening salvos on the road to Gettysburg.
Aaron Siever grew up in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. In 2016, he started his youtube channel, Aaron's Civil War Travels, which now has over 200 videos at sites from Virginia to California. Aaron graduated from Liberty University with bachelor's degrees in history and criminal justice after 15 years in law enforcement. Aaron also received a certificate in the American Civil War and Reconstruction from Columbia University online. Aaron joined the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation where he maintained the Valley's battlefields and conducted tours as a Park Ranger for 3 years before starting Aaron's Civil War Travels, LLC. Aaron belongs to the Appomattox-Petersburg Preservation Society as part of the Officers Corps and serves as secretary for the organization, as well as serving as member and Board Secretary for Society for Women and the Civil War.
This 7:30 program is open to the public, but you must reserve your 6:30 dinner by Sunday, October 11th, by contacting Paige Troiano-Rodgers at [email protected] or 240-370-9173. The family-style dinner this month includes beef stroganoff over egg noodles, green beans, fruit cup or applesauce, rolls, assorted desserts and drinks. The dinner cost is $20, payable at the door. If your plans change after our reservation deadline, we ask that you reimburse us for payment of your dinner
