Diana's mom says ever since she could pick up a pencil she has been drawing. Diana grew up on her family’s farm surrounded by the forest, where she would take her sketchbook and find a tree to sit under and draw for hours.
Diana has been doing art her entire life. In school she was known as the artsy kid. The art room was her favorite place to go, so much so that she would be in there any chance she could get, thanks to her favorite art teacher Mrs. Kennedy. She believed in Diana and showed her how to be herself with art. Diana is forever thankful for her guidance.
Diana has been in many art shows and the school’s newspaper for her art. During school is where she also found her love for writing, she's dreamed up many stories finished and unfinished alike.
Diana's Granny Le'Mar, her Mamaw and Papaw Johnson loved art and photography; they‘ve all taught her so much and made her who she is today.
Diana went to ZAAP gallery for a first Friday in 2014 and became a member that day; she loved the people and all the art. Ever since then she has been apart of the art community, joining ArtCoz in the process. Diana has been in so many shows, events and exhibitions that she's lost track at this point. She has won many contests and awards for her work. Diana has had her photography in Mission Oaks Calendars, as well as different businesses around town. She has artwork in a published book titled ‘The Purple Creation’ by Howard Duff Bailey. Diana was an ArtCoz Officer and the newsletter editor for a time, and really enjoyed those jobs. Now she is the Vice director of ZAAP which she enjoys as well.
Diana's art style has changed greatly over the years. She categorizes her work as surrealism, which is when she takes something normal and puts a twist on it. Diana's choice in art mediums are watercolor, gouache, acrylic and digital painting which she does on her iPad Pro. She also uses a Canon Rebel DSLR camera for her photography.
To Diana, art is expression, therapy and an extension
of yourself. Diana puts all of her feelings into a piece of artwork, taking the good and the bad to create amazing ART. You will be seeing more art and photography from Diana and on top of that she is also working on her first book.
