Every third Tuesday of the month (September - May) at 2:00 pm, join us as we discuss various books we have read throughout the year! New members are always welcome! Adult program, no registration required. Set in a small Massachusetts town from the late 1950s into the 1960s, the novel centers on the Moscatelli household—Louie, a gruff mechanic, and Dahlia, a reclusive and emotionally wary foster mother who've spent over a decade fostering children they love as their own. Their long-time foster children—Jimmy, and biological siblings Jon and Zaidie—are part of a loving but fragile dynamic.
Their lives shift dramatically when six-year-old Agnes Juniper arrives as an emergency foster placement. A child of Indigenous heritage who has suffered severe abuse, Agnes arrives fragile, nearly non-verbal, and burdened with painful memories. Her unexpected presence ripples through the family, forging new connections, revealing hidden trauma, and testing the bonds they've built over the years.
As the story unfolds across shifting viewpoints—from the children to Dahlia—the narrative explores the emotional complexities of generosity, resilience, and identity as these unconventional familial ties form and evolve.
