Art Stroll is on Friday, October 2nd, 2026! The store will be open later than usual for Art Stroll from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm; with then even later until 10pm for shopping.
We are thrilled to announce that we have Devon Lewis and Angie Whiting as our featured artist. Devon Lewis is the owner of Shoemaker Pyroshop, a business dedicated to the art of pyrography. He’s been burning since 2019 and excited to start his local art journey in Ogden. Devon works with wood, leather, and paper but is always looking for more things to burn. The only thing he loves more than burning is helping others find and grow their love of pyro art.
Classes and Events happening during the Art Stroll:
6:00-9:00: Come see Devon doing a demo....could be leather, could be woodburning.....you will only know if you show up to see. Either way you know it is going to be awesome! PLUS, he is doing a GIVEAWAY!! Find him in the entrance side of the leather display.
6:00-9:00: You will not want to miss the first ever Leather Earring Bar with Angie. Come choose your leather, beads, and rocks. Make yourself your perfect pair of earrings that are just your style! Find her in the entrance side of the leather display.
6:00-9:00: Something magical about creating your own DIY Potion Bottle. Join Monica from Wally Wax Co. to make your own by choosing your bottles, colors, mica, powders and glitter. Then finish the top off buy picking your color of wax and a seal! Find her in front of the store.
6:00-9:00: Come watch Mike from Hurst's Handblown Glass create with glass. You might even get to see a pumpkin getting made! You never know what amazing piece he will be creating. Find him in his Glass Studio.
6:00-9:00: Ceramic Doll Head Necklace. Unleash your spooky side and dare to get your spooks on by selecting from a chilling collection of ceramic doll heads and possibly other eerie body parts. Each head has been carefully severed from haunted ceramic dolls and transformed into haunting pendants crafted with sterling silver. Once you've chosen your sinister pendant, select from an array of sterling silver chains in various lengths and styles to effortlessly showcase your Halloween horror glitz. Find this ominous display of choices lurking in Rene’s shadowy studio space.

Come join us to create your own custom Zen garden—because peace should come with a little personality and maybe even be spooky. First, pick your tray and rake. Then bag up your sand and dive into the fun part: choosing from a huge variety of stones, miniatures, animals, and even seasonal goodies like Halloween and Christmas pieces.
Make it calm, make it quirky or spooky, but definitely make it you. Perfect for your home, office, or anywhere you need a tiny escape. Prices start at $19 and up. Find her outside of the store.

Duo
I set up some parameters for this new band and started searching for songs. Fortunately I didn’t have to look far; I’ve always had an interest in “western” songs and already had a good number in my repertoire.
I soon contacted fiddler Ryan Shupe, who had played in Powder Ridge with me, and Blue Sage was born. In addition to being one of the most gifted musicians I’d ever heard, Ryan was attending Weber State University near my home and was available! The duo was soon playing shows all over Utah.
Trio
While Ryan and I got Blue Sage up and running, my wife, Shauna, was working on the bass fiddle. I may be a little dense, but after watching her receive numerous offers from bluegrass bands in our area, I finally caught on to the idea that she might be a good addition to Blue Sage! The duo became a trio.
Blue Sage Band
Ryan eventually left the band to pursue his own career in music and I was fortunate to find another equally amazing fiddler to take his place. I’d watched Rob Ricks grow into the only fiddler who could fill Ryan’s shoes, and I was humbled that he was willing to take Ryan’s place in the band. For those familiar with our ‘Live At The Junction Theater’ CD, Rob is the musician responsible for the incredible fiddle work on that album.
About fifteen years into the Blue Sage saga, Rob left to get an MBA at Yale, and once again I found myself without a fiddler. Fortunately, I had grown one of my own! My eldest daughter, Heather, had grown up with Ryan and Rob’s fiddling and to my delight, I found that their unique styles had rubbed off onto her and she was able to slip right into the band when Rob left!
Quartet, Quintet and Sextet
By this time, twenty years had gone by and I realized that I’d only accomplished one of my three original objectives! Blue Sage WAS that perfect blend of western, folk, and bluegrass music I’d envisioned so many years before, but there were still those other two goals…
Although I’d been fronting the band with a banjo, most of our instrumental work had been constructed to showcase the fiddle. With the popularity of my clawhammer teaching site continuing to grow, I felt that the banjo needed to take the lead instrumental role in Blue Sage. I knew that if I could shift the focus of the band toward a new-grass/bluegrass sound, it would effectively complete the remaining two goals on my list! Fortunately, I was able to enlist the aid of some world class musicians to make this happen.
I’ve been blessed with some truly amazing talent in my bands, musicians such as Matt Flinner, Ryan Shupe, Rob Ricks, Ken Sager and Jake Workman, without who’s help I would never have been able to achieve my dream. I am humbled that players of this calibre have been willing to join me in introducing a full fledged “new-grass” band fronted by a clawhammer banjoist!
Around this same period in time, the pop band Rosewood invited me to fill in for their keyboard player (yes, on banjo) for a few gigs. The rest, as they say, is history and I ended up playing with Rosewood for over five years! I’m constantly amazed at how well the banjo fits into contemporary pop.
The heart and soul of Rosewood was Shaundra Cragun, an exceptional singer, songwriter and guitarist. Here’s a poor recording of an exceptional original number penned by Shaundra.
The Future
It’s now been over thirty years since I picked up the phone to talk Ryan Shupe into forming Blue Sage with me, and the band is still going strong. Ryan, as do other ex-members of the band, occasionally joins us on stage for special events! This is something we hope continues as long as Blue Sage is around.
A few years ago, I somehow managed to talk Shaundra Cragun into joining Blue Sage after Rosewood disbanded. I find it appropriate that this latest version of the band, this unusual combination of clawhammer banjo, finger-style guitar, violin and bass fiddle, might finally fulfill my dream of a clawhammer driven ensemble that can effectively tackle any genre of music…
