Join us for a special OceanTalk, "From Remote Reefs to Waikīkī: An Expedition Conserving Hawaiʻi's Coral Reefs," as Kelley Niide, Aquarist at the Waikīkī Aquarium, shares her experiences on an expedition to the Papahānaumokuākea National Marine Sanctuary, one of the world's largest and most remote marine protected areas. Learn what life is like aboard a research expedition, how corals are collected and transported back to the Waikīkī Aquarium, and why these remote reefs play an important role in coral conservation across Hawaiʻi.

Kelley Niide is an Aquarist at the Waikīkī Aquarium, where she has worked for 24 years. She has more than two decades of experience caring for marine invertebrates and managing aquatic life-support systems. She previously specialized in the Aquarium’s jellyfish collection and exhibits and now focuses on coral exhibits and conservation efforts related to the Papahānaumokuākea National Marine Sanctuary.
