Early Bird Registration for the 2026 Oceans Past conference

Early bird registration is available until 15 May. We encourage participants who are not yet members of OPI to consider joining. Registering for the conference as an OPI member, is less expensive than purchasing a non member conference ticket alone.

Please note: All OPI memberships run over a calendar year and cease in December. Hence, except for members who have taken out a lifetime membership, payment must be made on an annual basis accessed at the “” link to maintain membership benefits.

The conference will be held at the University of Victoria June 15-19, 2026 with support from the Faculties of Social Science and Humanities, the School Environmental Studies, the Departments of History and Anthropology, the Oceans Past Initiative, the Council for the Exploration of the Sea, and the Scripps Center for Marine Archaeology.

The price of in-person registration includes daily lunches and refreshments, networking and capacity-building activities, and structured opportunities to engage with mentors and keynote speakers.

LMIC rates apply to those participants who are citizens of Lower and Middle Income Countries as listed on

ECR rates apply to current students and those within 5 years of their most recent degree.

Limited funds exist to support waived registration fees for representatives of local Indigenous groups and local Indigenous community members. Reach out to [email protected] for more information.

Conference registration payments are collected by the Oceans Past Initiative and administered via a third-party account hosted by the University of Exeter, which acts solely as financial host for OPI. The conference itself is organised and delivered by the University of Victoria.

Please note: Late registration fees will apply after May 15 and are expected to be approximately 15% higher for members and 35% higher for non-members.
