The area surrounding Ocean Forest Park was dredged years ago for a development project that was never completed, leaving behind damaged habitat and an altered shoreline. Over time, this site has also become a hotspot for marine debris. Through years of community cleanups, volunteers have removed thousands of pounds of trash from this ecosystem. Now, restoration is finally moving forward.
With the dredged area recently filled back in, we are beginning the first phase of bringing this coastline back to life by restoring native mangroves and rebuilding critical habitat for fish, birds, and marine life.
Mangroves protect our shorelines, improve water quality, store carbon, and create the foundation for healthy coastal ecosystems throughout the Florida Keys.
This project represents years of cleanup, collaboration, and dedication from our community, and we are excited to take the next step together.
