About this Event

Thursday, October 10, 2024 | Live Asynchronous Webinar

Zoom link will be sent 1 week prior to the course.

Upper extremity paresis can present an immense burden for stroke survivors. Given the rising prevalence of stroke, restoring upper motor impairment remains a major challenge for rehabilitation therapists.

This live intermediate-level online learning activity will address occupational therapy management of the upper extremity in individuals following cerebral vascular accident. Treatment theories and principles to address the multiple considerations for upper motor neuron lesions will be presented. Considerations for standardized and non-standardized measures will be presented to identify best practices for assessment tool selection. A case study will be used to exemplify the synthesis of assessment findings for documentation and goal writing.

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the course participants should be able to:

  • Define muscle over-activity and identify signs and symptoms of the Upper Motor Neuron Syndrome (UMNS).
  • Differentiate between neurologic and non-neurologic signs and findings.
  • Integrate and apply current evidence on the evaluation and management of the upper motor neuron syndrome.
  • Incorporate consistent practice behaviors to increase the systematic delivery of occupational therapy.

Speakers: Kristen Beltz, OTR/L, Davis Berzins, OTR/L and Melissa Meyers, OTD, OTR/L, CKTP, BCPR
