About this Event
Paris during WWII and the German Occupation
Overview of the main places used by the Germans to house soldiers, officers and Army headquarters in Paris. The walk will also speak about the Occupation seen on a daily basis with the eyes of anonymous people.
With sometimes rare photos, this walk will also talk about the Deportation of the Jews, the French collaboration and the Resistance. Through various neighborhoods and side streets, we’ll explore daily life between Germans and Parisians.
Discover the buildings occupied by the German Army such as the Kommandantur. Located on the Opera square, it was the main meeting center between the Occupation army and the French population. Splendid hotels, like le Meurice, were also used as headquarters for the greater Paris area. It became a major fighting point between the Germans and the Allies. The hotel saw the last German commanding officer signed there his surrender and the end of the Occupation.
The tour will end at Place de la Concorde with more pictures and recounts of the Liberation of Parisin August 1944.
2 hours outdoor walking tour in English. From the Grands Boulevards to Place de la Concorde.
The meeting point is outside BPI France Bank 6, Boulevard Haussmann.
