Join us for the inaugural Great Trading Path Trail Ride, a community event that promotes healing, reconciliation, and awareness of the historic Occaneechi Path—one of North Carolina’s oldest Indigenous trade routes. Riders will journey on horseback along a preserved section of the Great Trading Path, tracing the footsteps of the Occaneechi, Saponi, and other Siouan-speaking nations who once guided trade and diplomacy across the Southeast. This year’s trail ride includes ceremonies, storytelling, and cultural exchanges led by descendants and tribal members, offering an opportunity for reflection, connection, and renewal.
Designated to the 2025 World Monuments Watch, the Great Trading Path is recognized globally as a cultural treasure and a symbol of Indigenous resilience. The event supports ongoing efforts to protect sacred sites, promote public education, and restore Indigenous stewardship along the route.
Participants are invited to register at bit.ly/OccaneechiTrailRide to ride their own horse and help honor North Carolina’s shared heritage.
