Observation Schema and Assessment

Join us for a dynamic and practical full-day course designed for early childhood practitioners who want to strengthen their understanding of observation and assessment in the early years.

This course is rooted in the Curriculum for Funded Non-Maintained Settings, with a particular focus on the Observe–Analyse–Respond cycle as a foundation for high-quality practice. Participants will explore how observation can help practitioners to truly understand children’s learning, development, and interests, and how this informs meaningful next steps.

Throughout the day, you will have the opportunity to:

• Observe real practice
• Examine and reflect on different types of documentation
• Develop confidence in analysing observations
• Consider how to respond effectively to support children’s learning and development
• Ask questions and engage in professional discussion
• Practise observation and analysis skills in a supportive environment

This course is ideal for practitioners looking to deepen their skills, improve the quality of their assessments, and ensure their practice aligns with current Welsh guidance. Expect a hands-on, reflective learning experience that you can take straight back into your setting.
