Observation Peak full moon/ partial lunar eclipse trek.
This is a great trek for kids and families. Low mileage each day, (3 to 5 miles), level terrain on the longer days, and the chance to camp on top of a mountain during the full moon. Then during the night part of the moon will disappear for the partial lunar eclipse.
The first day will be an easy trek to our campsite near Cascade Lake. There will be time in the morning to take in some sights at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone before we get started.
Day 2 is an all up hill, 2.7 mile hike to the campsite. We will take our time so we can take in the great views along the way. That night we will enjoy the stars from over 9000', the full moon rise over the Absorka Mountains along with the sunset over the Gallatins.
On day 3 we we will start with the moonset and sunrise. then we will start our 4 mile hike, all downhill or level, to our next campsite at Grebe Lake.
We should have plenty of time at each campsite, with the low mileage, so bring your fishing poles, and be ready to enjoy some tie in the backcountry.
Our last day will be spent hiking the 5 miles out on the old stagecoach road back to the Norris to Canyon road to our shuttle, completing the Point A to Point B trek.
This trek is $1200 per adult; $850 for kids 15 and under. (4 days 3 nights) and includes all shuttles, guided backpacking trip, all meals on the trail, headlamps and memories that will last a lifetime.
Rental gear is available for $50 per person.
This trek is a great opportunity to see the heavens from a high elevation, without city lights.
Kids are welcome, we recommend ages 6 and up. They should be able to hike 6 miles in a day without a pack. There is uphill and downhill grades on this trek.
