If you, like a true Melbournian, are drawn to the shadows and revel in the darker edges of art and culture, then clothe yourselves in the deep, dark tones of the night (black) and step with us into Obscuratorium. Experience an immersive realm of sculptural and photographic imagery, where the past is not merely remembered but resurrected. Delve into the hidden moments of each image with your own lens of curiosity and discover a lost world of objet trouvé. Let the Obscuratorium consume, intrigue and entertain you. Obscuratorium unites Gasworks resident artists Phill Calvert and Julia Brampton (aka Kitty Calvert) with Melbourne photomaker and visual artist Robert Earp in a dark tableaux of sculpture and photographic narratives.
Kitty Calvert’s intricate assemblages, crafted from forgotten relics, evoke stories of lost and haunting beauty. Earp’s atmospheric photography captures these sculptures amid vintage detritus in a subversion of traditional still life.
Together, they reimagine beauty in the broken and overlooked, inviting viewers to explore themes of childhood, memory and resurrection through a lens of mystery and storytelling.
Exhibition is in the ARB Gallery in the Gasworks Arts Park main building, opens 12th March and continues daily during gallery hours until April 6th.
