On Septemer 27 (rain date: 10/04) The Historical Society of Islip Hamlet presents its 5th Annual Cemetery Tour hosted by the Oakwood Cemetery Association. The tour features famous and infamous characters from the Islip’s bygone days.

The tour combines historically accurate accounts of interesting characters with a charming ambience of characters in historical costumes walking throughout the tour and interacting with our guests. Each tour group will be lead through the tour by an historical guide.

The tour features Society thespians in period dress bringing cemetery personages “back to life”. Oakwood Cemetery is surprisingly full of interesting people, and we have uncovered new characters to introduce to you.

This is a two-hour walking tour. A limited number of chairs will be available at each tour stop but feel free to bring a portable chair with you if you wish. Please wear comfortable shoes as we will be traversing the cemetery to visit actual gravesites.
