Oak City Cycling Presents: Frankenbike Build Off! 2026

Here's some of the build off details:

Start at 10am

Bikes to be completed by 2pm and checked for safety. They need to be solidly tightened down, be able to be pedaled, and be able to stop (either functional brakes or fixed gear).

After checks are done, the bike must be ridden to the Oakwood Cemetery Mausoleum, take a photo of the bike there, and return. Last year the first photo returned won a Park Team Issue Portable Stand (PRS-26). We are talking to vendors to come up with an equally sweet prize this year (or maybe even better!)

There will be time bonuses and deductions.

There is a fifteen second bonus for finishing your build ahead of others (i.e. First place to finish bike leaves, then second finished bike leaves 15 seconds after, third place leaves 30 seconds after, etc.)

Participants can ask for assistance to install items (up to two times). Each time assistance needed that will accrue a 10 second penalty on the starting time.

Every dollar spent on new stuff will delay the start by 0.5 seconds (spend $50 on new parts, then leave 25 seconds later.)

The “best in show” bike will also win an excellent prize (exact prize is also still in the works). Winner determined by head official Ken Metzger.
