Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! In the festive spirit of mooncakes and togetherness, we invite you to join us for a fun baking session where you can create your own famous Taiwanese pineapple shortcake with other fellow NYU Alumni! In 1708, the ancestor of Kuo Yuan Ye arrived in Taiwan from Zhangzhou, Fujian. In 1867, Kuo Liangzhen sold pastries on the street with a shoulder pole, thereafter founded a cake shop, carrying forth the ancestral cake art and ushering in a new era for Taiwanese pastry. Nestled by Shilin Bridge, the business evolved over four generations into a renowned “historic pastry brand.”
To protect this legacy, Mr. Kuo founded Taiwan’s first pastry museum, showcasing the evolution of Taiwanese pastries and ceremonial customs. In 2007 and 2010, KYY won the Gold & Silver Award at the Taipei City Government's Pineapple Cake Cultural Festival, and selected as one of “Top 10 Century-Old Stores in Taiwan.”
Event Highlights:
- DIY experience of creating pineapple shortcake with your own craft, taste, and style. Starting from mixing the raw materials, making the dough, shaping the shortcake, and packaging your own product.
- A small tour of the Kuo Yuan Ye (KYY) Museum of Cake and Pastry to explore the Taiwanese pastry culture from the history of the renowned bakery.
