About "New Year's Eve, Santa Rita Courts":
Last year, the City of Austin emptied out Santa Rita Courts (the very first public housing project completed under the United States Housing Act of 1937). Residents were given until the end of the year to pack up and leave. NYE SRC is a series of black and white photographs made on the final day of the year before the property was fenced off and prior to the onset of demolition.
About Chester:
Chester's family immigrated to the United States in the mid-90s. Just a few weeks before his birthday, his mother, younger brother and Chester left their small village in the Philippines and boarded a plane for the first time to join his father who had left for America 18 months earlier. The images Chester makes explores feelings of displacement and longing for connection both to place and people. His current work focuses on interconnectedness and how individual experience relates to the experience of the whole.
